Two Important Events

Dear Supporter,

Thank you so much for all you've done. Our hard work is paying off and many politicians are starting to take notice and give our plan the attention it deserves.

If you support 8664, we need you to show your support at the following:

Monday, November 19, @ 5 pm, Metro Hall

Nationally recognized traffic engineer Walter Kulash will present the 8664 Feasibility Study to Metro Council's ad hoc committee to explore 8664. Please join us at Metro Hall, 601 W. Jefferson Street, 3rd floor. After 5pm, you'll need to enter via 6th Street (b/w Market and Jefferson).

President Rick Blackwell, Councilwoman Tina Ward-Pugh (Chair) and the other committee members should all be applauded for bringing this important alternative forward for everyone to evaluate.

Councilman Tandy on the other hand was quoted as saying "The time for public discussion, as far as this issue, has passed." Until we hear differently, we'll put him in the Mayor's camp and not hold our breath for him to support this better, cheaper and faster alternative.

Wednesday, November 28, from 6 - 7:30 pm at the Kentucky Center for the Arts

Please join us for a FREE event to discuss the 8664 vision. Walter Kulash, the author of the 8664 Feasibility Study will be back in town to discuss his findings and field your questions. We need you there to send a clear message that 8664 deserves a fair and open hearing.

This event will be held at the Bomhard Theater at The Kentucky Center for the Arts. If you haven't already, please help us prepare for the event by sending us an RSVP email.

Governor Daniels is "Intrigued" with 8664!

Taken from an interview on newsandtribune.com:

"This alternative [8664] ... is intriguing," Daniels said, adding that he would not rule it out.

This is exciting news coming from Kentucky's partner on the Bridges Project. He went on to say:

"The 'one project' idea - I think for some people - it was a tactic to delay the whole project."

This sure rings a bell. You will recall that it was Downtown Development Corporation's 1994 study that concluded that the only way to fix Spaghetti Junction was with a downtown bridge. DDC is still lead today by individuals who are pushing for the downtown bridge and oppose the EE Bridge.

Mission

To advocate for the revitalization of Louisville through the removal of Interstate 64 along the riverfront and the adoption of a transportation plan that will provide long-term benefits to the region's citizens, neighborhoods, environment and economy.

PS If you didn't have the pleasure of reading the CJ's most recent attempt to rip 8664 and all those who support an open and honest process, we've included a link below. Fittingly, just days after they ran a mock up of a "86" 8664 billboard declaring "Indiana Speaks," the Governor of the fine state of Indiana says he's "intrigued" and would not rule it out.

Read the CJ's Editorial

Letter to the Editor

Wow. Has The C-J editorial board ever been so outraged about anything? Friday's op-ed was a barrage of vitriol worthy of Rush Limbaugh. Adjectives such as "blundering," "reckless" and "brash" were hurtled about. A group of people were called "zealots" and compared to cult members.

And what was the heinous crime that prompted such an indignant outburst? The mere creation of a bipartisan committee to study the 8664 plan -- an issue of significant import for the future of this city.

The paucity of actual arguments in The C-J's response, the absurd level of hostility, the condescending attitude taken toward readers, and the impulse to suppress critical examination of a public question -- all of these belie the supposed strength of The C-J's position. I've been skeptical of 8664, but now I have to say I'm intrigued. If it's true that "those on a mission often can't see in any direction except straight ahead," then perhaps The C-J editorial board and everyone else with a stake in Louisville's future should let their missions rest and see what this committee comes up with.
