Dear Representative,

As a resident of Metro Louisville, I am writing in support of completing the east end bridge as the first step in the transportation plan outlined on www.8664.org. While freeway removal might seem radical to some, it is gaining momentum around the country as cities focus on livability to drive economic development.

I feel 8664 deserves your full consideration for countless reasons, paramount among them are:

It will cost less

The $2.6 Billion total costs for the downtown portion of the Bridges Project is too much to pay, particularly when it will only hurt Louisville economic development. Furthermore, the downtown portion of the project was created by, and is supported almost exclusively by, east end bridge opposition.

It can be completed sooner

Spaghetti Junction has two major bottlenecks (one on I-65 south and one on I-64/I-71 west) that desperately need to be fixed. These are design flaws that can be corrected in a fraction of the time (and cost). We don’t need to spend 18 years tripling the capacity of our most congested urban interchange at a time when downtown Louisville is experiencing a significant renaissance.

It will restore Louisville’s connection to the Ohio River

Most everyone agrees that in hindsight, building I-64 across Louisville’s waterfront was a bad idea. The Bridges Project is our one opportunity to correct this mistake and begin a bright future for Kentucky’s largest city.

The leaders of 8664 have raised the funds and contracted with a leading transportation firm to do a traffic model analysis of the plan. If provided full access to the regional traffic model held by KIPDA, this analysis could be completed in the next few weeks. Please support this initiative for the betterment of Louisville and all of Kentucky.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely
