I was in san fran in december and was not aware of there had been an elevated high in front of the ferry building. What a great place it was without the highway. If only louisville could be as half as progressive.
Beautiful video, thank you for put it here, I am sending the link to other people all around the world.
In this video (Embarcadero Freeway Removal,) I was impressed by the boulevards with medians to separate the through traffic from the pedestrian traffic. This provides an opportunity to further enhance safety and the look and feel of the area which would encourage local shopping and pedestrian activity. I recommend everyone watch this video, it answers a lot of "What ifs" about taking down an ugly highway.
I really like the look of the 8664 plan, and I definitely agree that the east -end bridge needs to go up before a new downtown bridge, but the SF video (which also has NY stuff in it) brings up the fact that they have much more alternate transportation than we have in Louisville. It seems to me a lot of the folks in SF and NY could/would take the BART, trollies, buses, subway. We only have TARC…which doesn't cover everything and continues to cut service and routes. I think this may be a sticking point with a lot of folks. Just an observation.
