Ohio River Bridges Project, by the numbers

40 years - the East End Bridge has been in the region's transportation plan

32,000 - Spaghetti Junction's current daily truck traffic

23 - lanes of traffic in the proposed expanded Spaghetti Junction,
years Mayor Abramson has successfully delayed the East End Bridge

75 feet - I-64 would be widened by this amount over the Great Lawn

1/2 - the cost of 8664 versus the Ohio River Bridges Project (ORBP),
the number of bridges 8664 requires compared to ORBP

$2,000,000,000 - the cost for 23 lanes of Spaghetti Junction

0 - reasons to build a massive interchange on Louisville's waterfront

6 lanes - the width of I-64 thru Cherokee Park in KYTC's traffic models

"12" - people who donated a total of $2M to RF to stop the East End Bridge

$60,000 - the cost of KYTC's study that failed to study 8664

1 - US Congressmen living near the path of the East End Bridge
CJ Editor living near the path of the East End Bridge

4 or 5 - toll bridges in Louisville with ORBP

8664 - better, cheaper and faster than the ORBP

10 - The number of years downtown will be a construction zone under the ORBP.

As a Louisville resident who works in Indiana, I do not look forward to a decade of downtown construction.

After the many years of construction, then you can look forward to traffic slowed/stopped at the toll booths.

I work in a building down by the Great Lawn and traffic is already bad enough. If construction starts on the 23 lanes project I will find another job that is not in that section and possibly outside of Downtown Louisville. My stress level does not need anything added to it and I know by the way some drive out there they don't need anymore either.

I not only feel sorry for those who have to use the bridges every day, but it will be horrible for those who live in the direct vicinity of the 23 lane project. The recently built Waterfront Parkplace residents don't want to deal with that noise and mess. I know the mayor wants more people to move into the Downtown area. However, if there is noisy construction going on 24 hours a day for possibly 10 years people will refuse to move in the area. I know I would not do it.

For years I have felt that the 86-64 proposal makes so much more sense for the entire area than what I see as basically self-serving reasons why the relatively small River Fields Community is blocking a necesary truck traffic divergence with an East End bridge. I see nothing but problems for downtown Louisville and city growth in the future if we let opponents to this two bridges option sabotage the alternative to the current single bridge proposal now supported by Mayor Abramson and others. Our riverfront downtown is one of our greatest natural advantages as a metropolitan center. We need to enhance it for future generations and not so disfigure it by an expanded I-64 and spaghetti junction as is currently proposed--and apparntly supported--by our political leadership.
